General Instructions:
1. Always warm up your dog before exercise (a short run or some light exercises).
2. Never exercise on a full stomach or feed your dog immediately after exercise. Light snacks as rewards are permitted.
3. Gradually increase the demands on your dog to avoid overexertion.
4. Adapt the exercise to your dog, taking into account their breed, age, aptitude, and size.
5. Allow sufficient breaks during training so your dog continues to enjoy the activity. Always provide a bowl of water and allow your dog a short rest after drinking.
6. Remember that training should always end on a positive note.
7. Training with puppies and growing dogs should only be undertaken after consulting a veterinarian to avoid potential health problems.
Important: Pet and praise your dog during training – this motivates them and builds trust.
Assembly Instructions:
To assemble the hurdle, choose a level surface so your dog can jump straight. Slide the brackets over the poles with the screws loosened. Position the poles vertically with an inner distance of approximately 120 cm between them so the hurdle can be placed loosely. Tighten the screws only enough to prevent the brackets from slipping.
The fitness training can begin:
1. Start training with the hurdle set low to the ground. This prevents your dog from crawling under it. Lower the hurdle so your dog can clear it in one running motion.
2. Repeat each training phase several times to ensure your dog understands and can easily master it.
3. Always praise your dog extensively after clearing the obstacle. You can occasionally reward them with a small treat.
4. If you have little experience in dog training or plan to participate in competitions during the training process, it is advisable to also train at a dog school or dog sports club. This will help you avoid potential training mistakes or receive tips from an experienced trainer.
The training phases:
You can begin the first training phase with a leash or with a second person:
With a leash: Stand with your leashed dog in front of the hurdle. Now walk over the obstacle together with your dog, or walk alongside it while your dog jumps over the hurdle on its own.
With a second person: The helper stands with your dog in front of the hurdle. You stand behind the hurdle and lure your dog with a toy or treat so that it runs towards you.
If this works smoothly after several attempts, you can perfect the first training phase by continuing without the helper or by removing the leash.
If your dog successfully masters this as well, you can begin the second training phase. To do this, stand with your dog in front of the hurdle, point to it, and walk towards the hurdle with your dog. Use a command before the jump, such as "Hop" or "Jump."
For the third training phase, walk a few meters away from the hurdle with your dog. Run towards the obstacle together. Give the jump command as your dog jumps over the hurdle and you run alongside it. To make the training more challenging, you can raise the hurdle slightly and increase your speed.
If your dog enjoys training with the hurdle, you can introduce a new challenge using a tire (item no. 3208-TRXI). This is an agility piece of equipment that allows your dog to practice more precise jumps.
